Officer Carlton "Carl" McMillan is a Chicago Police officer and Mike's partner. He used to live with his grandmother and is often feeling sorry for himself. He struggles with women and is lonely.

Rosetta, Carl's grandmother. She is very traditional and is often annoyed by Carl's characteristics. She has a big heart and is very friendly to Mike, who calls her "Nana".
Mom[]
In "McMillan and Mom", his mom was revealed to be alive. Rosetta had lied to him for years about his mom being dead. His mom sent a birthday card when she remembered, but Rosetta never showed it to Carl. Rosetta said she had been a terrible mom, admitting she spent her time drinking and going out when she should have been home with her daughter, and she tried to make it up to Carl. His mom died in Memphis before she and Carl were able to reconcile.
