The sixth and final season of the television comedy series Mike & Molly began on January 6, 2016, in its new Wednesday at 8:30 pm timeslot, on CBS in the United States. The season is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with series showrunner Al Higgins serving as executive producer along with Chuck Lorre.

Summary Edit

The series focuses on the title characters Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) and Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy), a couple who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting in Chicago, Illinois. After Molly, a primary-school teacher (changing career to author in season 4), invites police officer Mike to give a talk to her class, they begin dating. As of the end of season 2, the two are married. Mike and Molly live in the home of Molly's mother Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz) and sister Victoria (Katy Mixon). Joyce is married to widower Vince Moranto (Louis Mustillo). Mike is regularly kept company by his best friend and partner in the police force, Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson). Other prominent characters in the series include Mike's mother Peggy (Rondi Reed), and cafe worker/owner Samuel (Nyambi Nyambi).

Trivia Edit

  • On March 12, 2015, CBS renewed Mike & Molly for a sixth season.
  • The season will consists of 13 episodes.

Production Edit

On January 10, 2016, CBS stated that although Mike & Molly doesn't have a season 7 renewal in place, the show would most likely be back next year (possibly for the final season if it were to be canceled) due to the rising salaries for the cast and rising production costs for CBS to keep it on the air were reasons for the licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Television. Following two days later on January 12, 2016, it was announced that the sixth season would indeed be the final season of the show, with the series finale airing May 16, 2016.

After the series ended, the set was transformed into a new set for I'm Not Your Friend (but later re-titled Man with a Plan) with former Friends, Joey and Episodes star Matt LeBlanc, which had just finished up its pilot episode before the series was ordered, and was competing against Mike & Molly at the time.
